The White House Daylesford, c. 1855

Sleeps 6 | Bedrooms 3 | Bathrooms 2

Tucked away behind an old hedge in the heart of Daylesford, The White House, curated & hosted by Lynda Gardener, needs little introduction. Renowned interior designer and stylist Lynda - whose name you’ll recognize from the pages of national and international magazines like Country Style, Home Beautiful, and House & Garden – curates inspirational, and uniquely beautiful spaces. Having hosted several historic properties of her own for many years, Lynda has set a benchmark for vintage, boutique accommodation.

Gold was discovered at Daylesford in 1852, and The White House was built not long after - a time when many flocked to the region in the hope of striking it rich! A quaint miner’s cottage, The White House has charming original period detail, with soaring ceilings, ornate fireplaces, aged timber floorboards, and pretty sash windows. Sleeping up to six adults, the main house features two queen bedrooms layered with soft, pure linens, natural textures, original artwork and one-off vintage finds. Enjoy restorative soaks under the antique French chandelier in the vintage clawfoot bath, with complimentary products by Melbourne-based Salus.

Just a few metres away, The Garden Room is its own private retreat, with vintage industrial furniture and art, sourced by Lynda at flea markets over the years. It’s a peaceful, light-filled space, with queen bed under high, vaulted ceilings, and its own bathroom, including romantic cast iron bath. French doors open out to the garden.

The well-equipped kitchen features custom concrete benchtops and a commercial sized oven, overlooking a spacious dining area with green views. Lounge by a roaring open fire in the comfortable living area with large sofa and styled with interesting old curios - sit and chat, or relax with the weekend papers and a coffee. Play a tune on the vintage record player, or disappear for the day with a good book in your own private library room.

The garden is an enchanting space in all seasons. Relax under the shade of trees during summer, and on the back deck, catch up with friends on the sun loungers at cocktail hour as the sun sets. A richly storied home that embraces times gone by, The White House is an inspirational, romantic escape that will linger in your imagination long after you leave.
