History

The Cottage at Dunmore Farm, in Molyullah, is one of the oldest homes in the district, close to the goldrush towns of Glenrowan and Beechworth. Built circa 1860, using red gum milled from the property, rumour has it that a wild young Ned Kelly spent time here.

Owners & hosts Bec and Angus Macdougall recently undertook a painstaking restoration of the property, returning it to its former glory. The Cottage is now a luxurious retreat, surrounded by peaceful and picturesque countryside.

The Cottage’s charming facade is instantly welcoming, with its rusty corrugated iron roof, wide wraparound verandah, colonial windows, red brick chimneys, cottage garden and mature trees. Inside is a perfect blend of old and new, a clever marriage of vintage & contemporary pieces, natural textured fabrics, and quality furnishings. Freshly-picked vases of flowers & greenery, warm throw rugs, candles and original artwork all make this a very special place to stay.

Accommodation

With accommodation for up to six guests, the cottage caters for couples, families or small groups of friends. There are three bedrooms all with luxurious I Love Linen bedding, and individual Nobo wall heaters. The master & second bedroom have queen beds, and the third has king single bunks by House of Orange. There’s also a highchair, porta cot and children’s books, games & toys available if you need.

The spacious, light-filled bathroom is a luxurious space for relaxing, with a large walk-in shower, Victorian clawfoot bath, chandelier, Sheridan bath towels and complimentary Aesop amenities. Unwind in a deep bubble bath, gazing out across the paddocks and allow yourself to enjoy a slower pace of life for a while.

The living area has plenty of space for six adults, with comfortable lounges and vintage leather armchairs, a large TV and guest library. An ornate fireplace surround houses a wood burning fire to keep you cosy in winter; and in summertime, the cottage is kept cool with split-cycle air conditioning. High speed WiFi is complimentary. A well-equipped kitchen features the original cast iron stove, as well as all modern appliances, and has everything you need to cook & bake. Bespoke Dunmore coffee, treats and local wine are also included. Gather for meals at the rustic antique dining setting that seats six.

On warmer evenings, you might prefer to cook outside on the Webber BBQ, and there’s an outdoor table to dine al fresco and come together at the end of the day with a glass of wine. Wicker chairs on the verandah are a beautiful place to sit with your morning coffee, breathing in the crisp, clean country air as you watch the sunrise and listen to the farm come to life. The Cottage at Dunmore is set on 150 acres and is a working Angus cattle farm, so there’s lots of opportunity to meet farm animals and explore the surrounding gardens and paddocks.

It’s time to disconnect from technology and the hectic pace of daily life, and stay awhile at The Cottage at Dunmore. It’s everything you want it to be – a wonderful farmstay experience, peaceful, idyllic country getaway, romantic retreat, and a place to reconnect and make memories with loved ones.
