Steeped in history, Terrara House holds deep connections to three prominent early pioneer families - the De Mestres, the Mackenzies and the Hyams. Surrounded by magnificent gardens and lush dairy country, heritage-listed Terrara House is undoubtedly one of Australia’s most remarkable historic Estates.

Construction of the house was completed between 1900 - 1904, using sandstone that was quarried several miles upstream, then sent down the river on barges. It is exceptional in scale and grandeur, and an outstanding example of Australian heritage architecture.

Until recently, the property was inaccessible to the public. However, Terrara House recently underwent a careful restoration, cherishing the Estate’s origins and story, and is now available for luxury stays, weddings, corporate events and intimate celebrations.

Accommodation in the main house comprises of 8 bedrooms, sleeping 14 adults and 6 children, and includes exclusive use of Terrara House - formal lounge and living rooms with original open fireplaces, dedicated study, large gourmet kitchen, and wide verandas framed with beautiful lacework, overlooking the magnificent grounds…the perfect spot for sunset drinks.

Additional accommodation for up to 8 guests awaits in The Stables - originally home to four Melbourne Cup winners - now converted into luxuriously appointed, self-contained accommodation. There’s also an 18m swimming pool, championship tennis court, and conservatory to enjoy.

Step outside to almost 17 acres of park-like grounds, and 12 acres of established heritage gardens for you to explore. Play games on expansive front lawn, pack a picnic to enjoy by the Shoalhaven river, or find a shady tree to relax under with a good book. The Estate also has its own private spa and salon for guests’ use.

Sustainably grown, local produce is an integral part of the Terrara House experience. The Terrara Artisan Team, including on-site chef and horticulturalists, start from the ground up, sourcing ingredients from the Estate’s large produce & herb garden, with menus curated seasonally. Each morning, enjoy a breakfast of homemade sourdough, farm fresh eggs from the chickens, preserves made using produce from the garden, and a range of teas and coffee.

During your stay, why not indulge in a five star meal in the chandelier-lit conservatory, or enjoy woodfired pizzas in Chesters, an original barn, now a charming event and dining space, with leadlight windows, vintage chandeliers, and walls inset with panels of fabric from Venice. Your stay at Terrara House is only limited by your imagination.

Terrara House holds many memories within its walls. Come and stay where the land meets the sea, be enchanted by its history, and create your own unforgettable memories at this iconic destination.
