History

Commanding breathtaking valley and ocean views from atop Berry Mountain, Glenworth Estate holds a significant place in Berry’s history. In the late 19th century, buildings on the estate were developed by James Wilson, a successful local businessman and the founder of Wilson’s Stores, who in 1869 became Berry’s first Lord Mayor. ‘Glenworth’, dating to 1890, was his primary residence. Since then, Glenworth Estate has changed hands just twice - once in 1952 to the Frecker family, then in 2017, custodianship passed to its current owners.

Glenworth House is a beautiful example of late Victorian Filigree style architecture, and has been recently restored to its former grandeur, along with significant restoration of outbuildings including the farmhouse, servants’ quarters, forge and stables. The original farm manager’s cottage, now Glenworth Cottage, was completely rebuilt and offers additional accommodation.

Set over 50 acres of pristine Australian native bushland and farming land, the current owners are passionate about sustainable farming, and the estate is now home to a breeding herd of Simental cattle, sheep, chickens, and bees.

With a designer interior by Victoria Hampshire and modern amenities throughout, coupled with historic beauty and a magnificent private country setting, Glenworth House is now offered as a luxury getaway sleeping 12 guests, with families welcome. Choose to also book Glenworth Cottage, with space for an additional 10 guests, and you have the perfect country escape for groups of friends and family.

Sunset evenings here with your favourite people and drinks makes for unforgettable moments.

The Barn, with original floors, brick and wood-panelled walls, and exposed beams has been repurposed as a rustic entertaining space for intimate gatherings.
