History

‘Glenfern’ was first established by a sheep farming family in the 1870s, and has changed hands a few times during its 150 year history. The original farmhouse was sadly destroyed by a fire in 1902, and the cottage was faithfully rebuilt in 1906, with beautiful heritage details.

Recently, Glenfern Cottage was given a full restoration by its current owners, who have carefully preserved the cottage’s original features and old world charm. The classic Australian weatherboard cottage features a rolled tin roof verandah, high ceilings with romantic ceiling roses, and chandelier in the lounge. The cottage also has its original windows, warm Baltic pine floorboards in the hallways, cosy wood fire with ornate surround, and the original fireplace feature in the master bedroom.

Antique pieces and vintage wares were sourced in sympathy with the period of the home, with modern comforts added including a stunning farmhouse kitchen and luxurious bathroom.

Sitting on its own parcel of lush farming land, Glenfern Cottage is completely secluded, quiet and private. Fully self-contained, once you arrive, there’s no need to leave. Enjoy exclusive access to the cottage, gardens, and country surrounds during your stay.

Accommodation

Three elegant bedrooms sleep up to six guests, with families welcome. There are two queen rooms, and a charming twin single room. The master has a four poster queen bed dressed in soft linens, and there’s also a lovely reading corner, with antique armchair and table. The master bedroom also has a wall-mounted smart TV, and work space with desk. Super-fast WiFi also makes Glenfern Cottage the perfect work away from home experience!

The main bathroom has been beautifully finished, with a spacious shower and ceramic claw foot bath commanding gorgeous views of the countryside. Australian botanical Salus body and hair products are complimentary.

In the large eat-in kitchen, you’ll find everything you need for preparing your favourite dishes each evening. Pantry staples of olive oil, milk, Nespresso coffee pods, and a selection of black and herbal teas are provided. Breakfast is also included in your stay, with fresh sourdough bread, jam, butter, and eggs.

Relax in front of the wood fire heater in the lounge room, with plenty of firewood for the indoor fireplace and fire pit outside. Settle back in a wing chair and choose a book or magazine, play a board game, or catch up on Netflix on the smart TV. There’s also a BOSE sound system so you can pop on your playlist.

Outside is just as restful, with twin sunken baths connected to the cottage via a decked walkway. A truly memorable experience, run a hot bath and unwind while watching the sun rise…and after a day exploring the region, enjoy a glass of bubbly as the sun goes down over the Mount Napier. Absolutely magical!

Dine al fresco at the outdoor setting with BBQ, and toast marshmallows around the fire pit with loved ones. Pet friendly, your furry friends are welcome to stay in the secure, fenced garden area.

And with a picnic blanket and basket provided in the cottage, pack your favourite gourmet treats and a bottle of wine, and head out to the front paddock, find a quiet spot under a gum tree, and simply be in the moment.

The most peaceful, beautiful stay. Close to Port Fairy and Hamilton, but far enough to have your own privacy. The outdoor baths were just incredible, and you could add more hot water as needed. Plenty of space for our dog to run around, and the kitchen had everything!
